What
you need to know about your class:
Puppy Manners:
This class is designed to give you and your puppy a great start in the world by working on confidence-building, manners
and socialization. At the start of the session puppies should be between the
ages of 8 weeks and 6 months for most breeds. Exceptions may be made for older
puppies smaller than 15 pounds or tiny adult dogs. There will be a $5 materials
fee to be paid to the instructor at the first class. Collars should be leather or nylon – NO metal collars. Please call
the instructor if you have question about this.
Manners & Obedience: This class is designed to get your dog started with obedience training using positive reinforcement, the
clicker, games and tricks. Dogs and puppies should be at least 5 months of age. There will be a $5 supply fee to be paid to the instructor at the first class for
a clicker, touch-stick, bait bag and information folder.
Beginning Obedience:
This class is designed to teach your dog the basic obedience skills of sit, down, come, wait/stay and walking on a
loose leash. Other skills that are worked on are sitting for petting, not jumping
up, and the use of distractions. You can work toward preparing to take the AKC
canine good citizen test. Dogs and puppies should be at least 5 months of age.
Intermediate Obedience:
This class is designed to polish our dog’s basic obedience skills to a higher level. You can work toward preparing for the Canine Good Citizen test and/or Novice Obedience competition. We work on adding duration and distance to your stays, distance and speed to
your recalls, playing games and increasing the various distractions. Dogs should
have completed the Beginning Obedience class or have made prior arrangements with the instructor.
Rally: This
class is designed to give you and your dog a fun way to practice and polish basic obedience skills, while heeling through
a course with various AKC rally stations. Dogs should have completed a beginning
obedience class.
Dancing with Dogs: This is a relatively
new sport that combines the precision of obedience with the fun and entertainment value of tricks, forming the visually exciting
display of a dog and handler moving together to music. Amaze your friends at
parties! Make your therapy dog’s visits more entertaining! Add enthusiasm
to your obedience dog’s performances! Whether you just want to entertain
your family or want to dance competitively for titles, this class will introduce you and your dog to fun and relationship-building
activity.
Competition Workshop: This workshop consists
of ring work in Novice, Open and Utility with experienced instructors. Help is provided with training problems, ring
procedure education and handling. Non-confrontational positive reinforcement methods are stressed. We begin at 9:00AM
with Utility dogs, followed by Open and Novice. We break for Group exercises around 10:00 AM.
